Choose Destin If You Want Activity From Morning Until Night
Destin is for travelers who enjoy constant activity. This is not a sleepy beach town – quite the opposite. The beaches are beautiful, but this is a much busier and more tourism-driven setup as I mentioned above. You’ll notice larger resort areas, more boats moving through the water, packed beach access points during peak season, and a lot more activity happening around the shoreline throughout the day.
One thing many first-time visitors do not realize is that public beach access in Destin can sometimes get a little tricky. Many beachfront sections are tied to resorts and condo developments, so unless you’re staying directly on the water, you may need to plan beach access, parking, and walking distances a bit more carefully.
That said, some public spots are absolutely worth it. Henderson Beach State Park, for example, has some of the prettiest shoreline on the Emerald Coast, along with dunes, restrooms, parking, and a much more natural beach setup compared to some of the busier resort areas.
Beach Days in Fort Walton Beach
As you can already guess, Fort Walton Beach is for travelers who prioritize uncomplicated beach days.
Okaloosa Island has several public beach access parks with free parking, picnic areas, restrooms, and easier access onto the sand.
